Developing the Russian SMEs - A 2,5M euro project delivered

TREK Consulting, as a consortium member, has sucessfully delivered by March 2006 a substantial project for new business and political framework for the Small & Medium size Enterprises of North-Western Russia. Started in June 2004 and budgeted with some 2.500.000# a new approach of doing business in accordance with the E.U. standards, along with practical tools for assessing the SME sector, is on the run.
The overall project objective is to support export development and increase commercial cross-border activity involving SMEs from the Leningrad and Kaliningrad oblasts, with a view to promoting regional economic development. Specifically, policy and institutional infrastructure support will be provided, SMEs will increase their exposure to international markets, and local business service providers will improve their capacity to provide export-oriented business services. Selected SMEs will receive Technical Assistance, such as development of export promotion skills, business planning, financing, management training, quality certification. A QMS Certification Office will also be established, and an information dissemination campaign will be implemented, promoting the project and its aims.
